When you need a TIE
Any non-EU national staying in Spain for more than six months — for work, study, family or non-lucrative residence — must obtain a TIE after their visa or residence authorisation is approved.
The fingerprint (toma de huellas) appointment
You book a "toma de huellas" appointment, attend in person with your photos, EX-17 form and paid fee, give your fingerprints, and collect the card a few weeks later.
